About
Vincent Koning, the Netherlands, Den Helder 31-10-1971
In the early 1980s, Vincent started out on a classical guitar study and then, by participating in various workshops, he came into contact with jazz music in the mid-1980s. His choice for this music was evident.
Vincent Koning graduated with honors in 1997 at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague and then in 1998 at the Hilversum Conservatory. Inspired by guitarists like Kenny Burrell, Jimmy Rainey, Barney Kessel, Tal Farlow and Wes Montgomery, he found his own way in traditional jazz.
He has shared the stage with names like: Benny Bailey, Teddy Edwards, John Hicks, Tal Farlow, David Murray, Vincent Herring, Joe Cohn, Piet Noordijk, Dim Kesber, Harry Verbeke, Cees Slinger, Rob van Kreeveld, Rita Reys, Sanny Day, Greetje Kauffeld, Denise Jannah, Matt Dusk, Deborah Brown, Roberta Gambarini, Jarmo Hoogendijk, and many others.
Vincent plays in the Lex Jasper trio, the Ghost, the King and I and the North Sea Big Band. He also played with the Metropole Orchestra, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, the Auratones and Xynix Opera (Holland Opera).
Vincent plays many concerts at home and abroad and, in addition to practically all European countries, he appeared several times in the USA, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Korea, Siberia and the Baltic States.
Besides performing as a freelance musician he is also active as a teacher.
